The financial situation of the medical insurance system is in a very serious state of crisis. This is not a proper solution. The crisis in the medical insurance system is the result of the government's unilateral and forced pursuit of both the integration of workplace insurance and regional insurance and the division of the legal responsibilities of pharmacies and hospitals. This being the case, the solution to the problem will be found in the fundamental aspects of both systems. Pretending the systems themselves are not the problem and covering both in money might work for the time being,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but it cannot be a permanent improvement.
The only options when it comes to increasing financial intake would be to increase the cost of medical insurance, lowering the cost of medical care,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and supplementing the system with money from the National Treasury. The Ministry of Health and Welfare is bearing the brunt of the worst of the criticism. Last year the ruling Millennium Democratic Party led its people into battle over this controversy over the division of that which is medical and that which is pharmaceutical. Prime Minister Lee Han-dong himself pushed this program along, but now he,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], too, is criticizing the Ministry of Health and Welfare for what he is calling an oblivious response to the situation.
